Shell Cottage Mumbles Details
This pretty three-storey cottage has everything holidaymakers need for a relaxing seaside stay. Shell Cottage can accommodate five guests in three light and airy bedrooms (a master bedroom on the top floor and a double and single room on the first floor). There is a modern, fully-equipped, fitted kitchen and dining area, a comfortable lounge (with a sofabed), a shower room and additional cloak-rooml. The cottage has been decorated in a charming coastal style and is ideal for a holiday break for couples or for families either in the summer months or outside the main school holiday periods.
The kitchen is fitted out with a fan oven, ceramic hob, microwave, electic kettle and toaster, and small fridge-freezer as well as a range of utensils, crockery and cutlery. There is a dining table, with window seat and chairs and a washing machine, drying frame, iron and ironing board.
There is a comfortable lounge area with sofa bed, a mini Hi-fi, TV and DVD player with a selection of CDs, DVDs, books and board games. Guests can admire the view over the Promenade and Swansea Bay through the large groundfloor window in the lounge. Free Wifi is available at the George Hotel nearby.
On the first floor there is a double room with double bed and a good-sized single room, both of which have windows which look out onto the sea. There is also a small cloakroom with handbasin and toilet on this floor.
On the second floor there is a large master bedroom with double bed and panoramic views over the sea. There is also a separate shower room with toilet on this floor next to the bedroom. From this floor guests can access the external "Crows Nest" area of the cottage.
From the "Crows Nest" there is a magnificent view of the whole of Swansea Bay and Mumbles. This wooden deck area has a table and chairs providing a private space for guests to sit-out by day or evening to enjoy the view with a drink. Fairy lights wind their way up the staircase and into the seating area to create lighting and atmosphere.
As the cottage is on three floors with a number of steps it may not be suitable for those with restricted mobility.

Arrival
The location of Shell Cottage is to the west of Swansea. Follow the signs through Swansea to Mumbles. When you get to Mumbles go straight over the mini roundabout and carry on the seafront road until you see the George Hotel on the right (about half a mile). George Bank is just to the left of the George and the cottage is the blue one just a little up the cobbled street.

Free parking is available for residents in front of the George Hotel adjacent to the cottage. Please note that the car park area is NOT solely for use of the Hotel clients. Should this area be full, there is a pay and display car park on the foreshore opposite the property which is free overnight from 9pm until 8am.
Check-In
On your arrival at Shell Cottage you will find the key will be in the key safe, which is located to the left of the door. Slide down the cover and enter the code to access the door key. You will be notified of the code in advance. Where necessary please contact David on mobile no 07553958604.
Check-in is from 4 pm on our day of arrival; check-out is by 11 am on your day of departure.
General
On arrival please familiarise yourself with the building, surroundings and all safety instructions.
Guests
The property is not suitable for any adult with mobility problems, unable to cope confidently and safely with steps. It is on 3 floors with steps up to the front door and with steps also leading up to the decking area, which may become slippery in wet weather, so extra care should be taken. Guests are always advised to use the handrail when using the stairs. Guests must take every care to ensure the safety of any visiting child/infant or less mobile adult.
Equipment
The wall mounted gas boiler is situated in the kitchen area and connected to the mains electricity through a standard plug and socket. DO NOT switch this off. The timing can be adjusted on the dial. A small switch within the dial controls the timed, continuous and off settings. When set to off the water will still be heated.
The shower on the top floor is electrical and operated independently using a switch in the bathroom.
There is a wall mounted switch in the kitchen for the cooker. The microwave can be plugged into a nearby socket when needed.
A washer/dryer is available for use together with a drying frame. An iron and ironing board and hoover is in the cupboard under the stairs.
A hairdryer is situated in the chest of drawers in the top bedroom.
The TV is connected to an indoor ariel and incorporates a DVD player. There is also a radio and CD player. Unfortunately, due to the current situation we have had to remove all DVDs, games, CDs, and books.
Fire Safety
Please familiarise yourself with the detailed instructions for use of the Fire equipment provided, and note the Fire escape procedures. There are Fire exits on the ground and third floor of the property and a Fire door on the 3rd floor landing. The Fire equipment provided is a fire extinguisher on the ground and 3rd floor and a fire blanket in the kitchen. We do ask guests to be extremely sensible and aware of the special dangers posed by fire, and the risk to personal injury.
Never leave food cooking on the hob unattended. Do not leave an electrical appliance unattended, such as the kettle, toaster, hairdryer or electric iron. Please ensure all electrical appliances & lights are switched off before going to bed or leaving the property. Please note, “Tea lights”, candles and barbecues are not allowed.
Shell Cottage has a No Smoking policy within the house and garden.
Smoke alarms and a carbon monoxide detector are fitted in the property. A torch is provided.
Hygiene and Welfare
No pets are allowed at the property. An initial supply of cleaning materials, anti-bacterial handwash, hand sanitiser and toilet tissue is provided.
Mattress and pillow protectors are fitted. Sheets, duvet covers & pillowcases are provided together with towels and tea towels. For bookings of more than 1 week an additional set of bedding and towels will be provided.
Please bring your own beach towels.
A small First Aid kit is provided on the top of the kitchen cupboards.
Electricity
The fuse box and trip switch are located high on the wall in a small cupboard behind the front door. An outdoor light is available for the bridge to the decking area with the switch just inside the door on the 3rd floor landing. Spare light bulbs are available under the stairs.
Water
The stop cock is located on the cobbled street to the left of the gate just outside the property.
Disposal of Waste
Please help us by sorting your refuse into the appropriate binbag: Pink for plastic; green for glass and cans; and green also separately for paper. All other rubbish in black bags. A supply of bags is kept in te cupboard under the sink.
Collection day is Thursday alternately for either green bags or black and pink bags.
There are pedal bins in the kitchen and bathroom and liners are provided. The dustbin for black bag waste is located outside the backdoor of the property. Please leave any uncollected black bags in this dustbin on departure.
Flooding
Please do not leave the basin or kitchen sink taps running unattended.
Shower room
Please take care when getting in or out of the shower and be aware that the shower room floor can become slippery. Please use the cotton bath mat provided, to prevent slipping.
Checking out
We would be very grateful if guests could kindly carry out the following before departure.
- Strip the beds of quilt covers, sheets and pillow cases and place the bed linen and towels in black bags.
- Clear the fridge, kitchen cupboards and surfaces to be ready for cleaning
- Bag up rubbish in the appropriate bags and leave outside.
- Wash all dishes and cutlery and replace in cupboards.
Please ensure electrical appliances are turned off, lock the front door and replace the key in the key safe. We hope you enjoy your stay and have a safe journey.
